About MSID

Mother's Society of Intellectual Disabilities (MSID) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established by a group of Nepalese parents and guardians belonging to intellectual disable which aims to protect and promote the basic human rights of the intellectually disabled. It aims to form and strengthen their social capital to improve the socio-economic status of the intellectually disabled and their respective parents or guardians through enhancement of various knowledge and skills.

MSID was established in 2005 and have acquired enabling linkage from the Lalitpur District Administrative Office. MSID has also been affiliated with Social Welfare Council on the same year with its Affiliation number 18982.

MSID is primarily a membership based organization which aims to strengthen the individual and collective capacity of the Nepalese parents belonging to intellectually disabled children to promote and protect the basic human rights of their children. Presently, MSID consists of 84 General members, Life Members and an executive committee of nine members primarily responsible to execute and run the regular activities including the day-to-day administrative functions of the organization.

Vision

To achieve the holistic development of children with intellectual disabilities by involving their families, society, and the nation proportionately, and making them self-reliant.

Mission

  • The society will be a non-profit making organization.
  • The society will carry out awareness raising activities to the public by educating them to increase the social status of the intellectually disable persons.
  • To increase positive attitude towards intellectually disable persons.
  • To create favourable environment and provide vocational trainings to bring out the talents and skills which are under laying in a dormant stage within the intellectually disable persons.
  • To take necessary actions to provide free medical services and employment opportunities to the intellectually disable persons.
  • To develop linkages with national and international organizations and participate in various workshop and seminars.
  • Organize interactive talk programs to spread out the information on intellectual disability by involving the parents.
  • To improve the physical and mental strengths of the intellectually disable persons, the association will take necessary steps to organize various sports and cultural activities.
  • Organize various lobbying and advocating activities by collective efforts of the parents.
  • To empower intellectually disable and their parents/guardians through various economic activities.
